69 years. Ask anyone and they will tell you that a lot can happen in that stretch of time. Now imagine a love that has endured the test of time for all of those years and you are witness to the love affair of Rocco and Julia Ciavarella, a resident couple from the Village Green of Waterbury.
Rocco and Julia's love affair began in Waterbury, CT in 1941 where the couple met at the Watertown Princeton Factory. As old-fashioned rules dictated, Rocco desperately wanted to go on a date with Julia, but he had to ask for her parent's permission before making his move. Luckily for Rocco, Julia's parents granted him permission and to make a lasting first impression, Rocco brought chocolates and flowers for Julia on their first date.
Rocco and Julia dated for a year and once again, Rocco consulted with Julia's parents to ask for her hand in marriage. With the approval of Julia’s parents, Rocco and Julia were married on October 17th, 1942, and the newly minted Ciavarella's spent their honeymoon in New York City. The Ciavarella's are the proud parents of four children: Leonard, Felicia, Rocco and Anna and their extended family has grown to include 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Realizing how special the couple's love is for one another and knowing that 69 years of marital bliss is a milestone it itself, the center wanted to do something special to mark the couple's anniversary. On October 17th, at the Village Green of Waterbury, the couple celebrated there 69th wedding anniversary.
"Rocco and Julia Ciavarella's love for one another is truly special and our center wanted to do something special to help celebrate the couple’s milestone anniversary," remarked Linda Garcia, center administrator. "We at the Village Green of Waterbury are so pleased that we had the opportunity to help celebrate this milestone moment with the happy couple and we wish them all the best."
